Travel tips for African Safaris

When to Safari Africa

When you visit Africa, the optimum time to go is determined on your itinerary. Even though the weather is pleasant throughout the year, seasonal changes do influence animal movements. Since Africa is located in the Southern Hemisphere, its seasons are the exact opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere.

Our Africa safari packages are meticulously crafted to ensure that you see the continent at its finest. The dry season varies from place to region in Africa, but this is often the best time to go. Tours in Tanzania and Kenya are at their finest between July and October, when temperatures are milder and the annual Great Migration takes place over the Serengeti and Masai Mara. The months of April through October are ideal for African tours that take you to Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Cape Town, as the weather is milder and more pleasant for safari game drives and city sightseeing. It is incredibly hot and dry in the deserts of Morocco and Egypt, so if you want to travel there, the best time to go is in the spring or fall.

Dining Safaris for Africa

Africa’s culinary diversity cannot be summed up by a single dish. The variety of spices used in Moroccan cooking reflects the country’s proximity to the Mediterranean, the Arab world, and Andalusia. Tagine, a stew of meat (beef, chicken, or lamb) and vegetables, and couscous are staples of the Moroccan diet. Nile Valley agriculture provides an abundance of legumes and vegetables for Egyptian cooking, which also draws significantly on Mediterranean flavors. Meat meals like shawarma and kebab are favorites across the Middle East and North Africa.

distinct regions of Kenya and Tanzania feature vastly distinct cuisines because of their dependence on locally sourced ingredients. The cuisine served at your wildlife lodges on our African safari is influenced by British colonial cuisine. Because of the large number of Indian and South Asian immigrants living there, curry and other spicy dishes are also rather common.

“Rainbow cuisine” is the name given to the diverse dishes that are popular in South Africa. South Africa also has a thriving wine industry, and its white wines are widely regarded as among the best in the world.

Our escorted tours cover a wide swath of Africa, giving you the chance to sample dishes from all around the continent.

Safari Travel: What to Know Before You Go on an African Safari

Packing tips for Africa

Travelers should pack for hot, sunny days during their time in Africa, with the possibility of cooler evenings. You should bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and other sun protection gear in case the weather changes suddenly. When visiting religious places in Morocco and Egypt, visitors should dress modestly and cover their shoulders and knees. Lightweight rain gear may also be useful to have on hand, as showers are possible at any time of year.

Packing on an African safari? Try to stick to subdued hues so as not to frighten the wildlife. In order to keep everyone safe and comfortable in safari vehicles, rigorous luggage restrictions are imposed. Hard suitcases are not permitted, so be sure to use a soft, flexible duffel bag instead.

We will, of course, offer you further packing suggestions and other travel preparation details once you have booked your safari to Africa.
