Day 1: Arrive in Arusha, Tanzania

Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a warm welcome and transferred to your beautiful accommodations in Arusha, northern Tanzania’s safari capital. (D)

Day 2: Arusha / Tarangire National Park

Begin your tour in Tarangire National Park, which is famous for its big elephant population and gigantic baobab trees that dwarf the animals who feed beneath them. After you’ve settled into your safari lodge, grab your camera and meet your knowledgeable ranger for a late afternoon game drive. Day 3: Tarangire National Park

Join your professional ranger for morning and afternoon game viewing in the Tarangire / Manyara region. Tarangire National Park, with its river providing the sole stable water source throughout the dry season, is home to a diverse range of animals, including elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lesser kudu, zebras, lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Day 4: Tarangire / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This morning, we set out for Lake Manyara. The flamingos that line its shores during the season provide an excellent introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. Large elephant herds traverse the park, and your ranger will work hard to find the region’s renowned tree-climbing lions and several animal photo possibilities. Continue on to your resort for the following two nights, which is perfectly located to visit Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (BLD)

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Area

Explore the crater floor of this extinct, collapsed volcano by descending 2,000 feet. The amount of fauna concentrated here will astound you. Zoom in on the elephants as they walk over well-worn paths. Keep an ear out for the roaring lion guarding its vast pride. Gazelle graze calmly among zebra and wildebeest, and you could see an endangered rhino eating down near the lake. Before returning to your campsite, have a picnic lunch. (BLD)

Day 6: Ngorongoro / Serengeti National Park

Take a short trip to the Serengeti, which means “endless plains” in Maasai. While the exact timing is difficult to predict, this is where almost two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson’s gazelle, and a quarter-million zebra congregate for annual migrations, attracting huge predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena. Day 7: Serengeti National Park

Early in the morning, depart for your first game drive of the day. As the morning unfolds, gather a collection of spectacular images: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; vigilant elephants carefully guarding their young as they travel the bush; a frightened warthog racing with tail upright; and ungainly groups of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. Relax at camp until the day cools and the animals become more active before embarking on your afternoon wildlife drive.
