Detailed 5 Days Serengeti Safari Itinerary Advice

Day 1 – Arusha – Ngorongoro

NGORONGORO CRATER | The Arena of Survival for the Lords of the Savannah

Gather your picnic lunch since our driver will be picking you up from your Arusha hotel and bringing you on a full day tour of Ngorongoro Crater. Take a four-wheel drive vehicle 2,000 feet down the crater, where you can explore before driving back up to your lodge on the rim. A trip to the Ngorongoro Crater, which has been dubbed “Africa’s Eden” and the “eighth natural wonder of the world,” is a major reason why people travel to Tanzania.

The Ngorongoro Crater is located inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA). It was formerly believed to be higher than Tanzania’s renowned Kilimanjaro when it was built around 2.5 million years ago when a volcanic peak sank owing to inactivity. Over time, the crater has transformed into something special, an essential component of Tanzania’s ecosystem. The caldera-like crater has a diameter of 22.5 km with rim walls that are 600 m high. Both the inside and the rim offer stunning views. Because of the constant supply of water throughout the year, the crater is home to a wide diversity of birds and thirty thousand animals. The following day, you’ll head back to the lodge for some dinner and a place to sleep.

Day 2 – Ngorongoro – Serengeti National Park

The journey from Ngorongoro to the Central Serengeti begins with a pickup at your hotel after breakfast. The Great Migration can be seen on a full-day game drive in this section of the park; meet your driver guide upon arrival. Some of the park’s most famous inhabitants are the “Big Five,” so called because they are the five most valuable hunting trophies: Because there are so many different kinds of prey in the Serengeti, lions—the park is thought to be home to Africa’s greatest lion population. This environment is home to about three thousand lions. With a population of about 1,000, the African leopard is a solitary predator that is most frequently spotted in the Seronera region but can be found elsewhere in the national park. The Serengeti is home to the world’s largest land mammals, the African elephant.

Day 3 – Serengeti National Park (North Mara)

The Last Paradise on Earth – The Amazing Serengeti

Gather your picnic lunch and go on a wildlife drive to see the huge migration after breakfast at the camp.

Game Reserve of Serengeti — During the months of August through October, the Wagakuria area becomes a wildlife haven, despite the extraordinarily large concentrations of resident species (up to 30 strong prides of lions). A prominent feature is the Mara River, which the herds often use to travel north one day and south the next. Take note: finding a crossing can be a real challenge and occasionally down to luck.

Accommodation: Acacia Migration Camp

Day 4 – Serengeti National Park (North Mara)

Indulge in a full day of game diving at the Mara River after breakfast, where you may witness the big migratory river crossing. Head back to camp in the evening for dinner and an evening bonfire.

In August, when the huge herd begins to congregate in the area, river crossings at Kogatende begin to happen daily. Up here, game watching is at its best from August through October, when river crossings are practically assured daily. Because the herds often ford the river in response to precipitation and the consequent growth of new grasses, there is no discernible pattern to their movements. Even on the same day, you could find herds going in opposite directions.
