Kenya’s Samburu/Masai Mara/Seychelles Itinerary Guide

This is the life: two weeks of top-notch game viewing in two distinct reserves, followed by a relaxing beach vacation on an island and private bay in the Seychelles, before returning home. You could be mistaken for believing you’ve found paradise after spending time in Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve and a private reserve in the Masai Mara, followed by a trip to the Seychelles, with their unrivaled islands.

From the dry, rocky cliffs of Samburu to the Masai Mara’s undulating plains and turquoise lakes to the palm-dotted, white-sand beaches of Mahé Island and Denis Private Island in the Seychelles, every stop is magical and amazing in its own way. As you go on your safari, keep an eye out for the endemic Samburu Special 5: the Somali ostrich, gerenuk antelope, Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, and Grevy’s zebra. Take in the breathtaking natural beauty of East Africa’s rhythms as you do so.

The next stop is the Seychelles, a tropical island paradise. During your six nights there, you’ll spend time on Denis Private Island and Mahé, the biggest island in the archipelago and the international gateway to this sun-drenched paradise. Jump on a stand-up paddle board, kayak, traditional dhow sailing boat, or go scuba diving or snorkeling to see marine life along tropical shores.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Jambo, Kenya! | 1 Nights Nairobi, Kenya

Ololo Lodge & Safari | Kenya, Africa

Spending one night at a picturesque estate on the outskirts of Nairobi National Park will set the tone for a two-night period of pure happiness. At Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a driver will be waiting to transfer you to Ololo Safari Lodge, where you may spend the night and relax after your long flight.

Indulge in a delectable vacation supper at The Kitchen at Ololo, the lodge’s restaurant, after settling into your roomy thatched tented cottage and relaxing on your private terrace with a view of the National Park. Thanks to the Wi-Fi, you can update your loved ones back home on your safe arrival in East Africa. A wildlife drive across Samburu and the Masai Mara could be in your future, depending on when you arrive.

Days 2-4: On Safari | 3 Nights Samburu, Kenya

Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city today and have an adventure among the rugged cliffs of the Kalama Conservancy. Your light aircraft flight to Saruni Samburu is planned to depart from Wilson Airport after breakfast at Ololo. A driver will transport you there.

Relax on your balcony or in the pool upon your arrival and observe the local wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and zebras, as they visit the waterhole to quench their thirst. Guests seeking seclusion will find it at Saruni Samburu, a breathtaking resort stretched out at an altitude with plenty of space between the reception, spa, swimming pools, and guest rooms.

The Samburu Special 5—the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk antelope, and Somali ostrich—are among the many animals that can be seen in the Samburu National Reserve, along with elephant herds, lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Learn about the Samburu people’s age-old customs and practices with the help of Saruni’s native guides. The lodge is a great place for kids to learn about bush legend, and the guides will even show them how to create traditional tools like bows and arrows and crafts like toothbrushes out of tree fronds.

Days 5-7: South to the Mara | 3 Nights Masai Mara, Kenya

Is a Masai Mara Safari Worth the Hype

Return to the airfield to board a flight to the Masai Mara after saying goodbye to the breathtaking Samburu. In the Mara North Conservancy, on the northern edge of the majestic Masai Mara, you’ll find Saruni Mara, an ideal place to stay. The resort offers a prime vantage point for wildlife viewing, situated above the undulating grasslands in the enticing Great Migration region.

Take thrilling game drives in the morning and end the day with sundowners and coffee stops. Guided treks are a must if you want to hear authentic Masaai tales and maybe even see a sleeping leopard among the tree branches. Included in this tour is an early morning hot-air balloon safari, the most fantastic way to observe the reserve’s plentiful wildlife. It is a tranquil and unmissable experience.

A well-appointed spa that combines Western and native Maasai treatments, Maasai Wellbeing Space is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of adventure.

Day 8: Post-safari Stopover | 1 Nights Nairobi, Kenya

Your post-safari layover before a tropical island paradise is an overnight stay at the Eka Hotel in Nairobi. Talk to our specialists about making a reservation in advance if you’re interested in visiting the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Centre, or Karen Blixen Museum. Another option is to just kick back and relax by the pool or in the hotel’s spa.

Days 9-11: Jet Off to Indian Ocean Island Paradise | 3 Nights Mahe Island, Seychelles

Mahé, Seychelles

At the foyer of the Eka Hotel, a driver will be waiting to take you to the airport. Mahé is the perfect starting point for a week of tropical island pleasure as you travel from Kenya to the Seychelles. The biggest island in the archipelago, it offers tourists a taste of Creole culture alongside the traditional tropical beach vacation. You will be met by a driver at the airport arrivals and driven to the stunning Carana Beach Hotel, a charming boutique hotel right on the beach, where you will spend the following three nights.

Relax on one of the lounge chairs provided near the beach-facing pool. A quiet haven of tranquility, each chalet boasts a plunge pool and breathtaking views of the sea. Relax with a treatment or massage at the Sens Spa, explore the crystal clear waters by snorkeling or kayaking with exotic marine creatures, and dine at one of the many restaurants right there. Discover the fascinating history and beautiful scenery of the island whenever the mood strikes you.

Days 12-14: Your Island Bliss Continues | 3 Nights Private Islands, Seychelles

Although your stay on Mahé is coming to a close, the island joy you’ve been experiencing is far from done. Your journey to Denis Private Island’s private runway begins with another sumptuous breakfast spread before you return to Seychelles International Airport for a brief flight.

Denis Private Island Lodge is an unbelievable find in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and you won’t believe your eyes when you see it. Set on a secluded island, this eco-resort offers breathtaking villas and cottages in an ultra-luxurious style. Indulge in a romantic getaway at Denis Private Island Lodge, where you may swim in pristine waters, relax at the spa on a hilltop, or simply relax in your own private pool while taking in breathtaking views of the Seychelles.

Day 15: Bid Farewell

For your final morning on the island, wake up to the soothing sound of the waves washing against the shore and the birdsong that fills the air. Enjoy a final breakfast in the fresh air while sipping a smoothie or coffee. Then, make a quick trek to the airfield to catch a flight back to Seychelles International Airport, where your journey will continue.
