10 Days in Tanzania Itinerary Advice (for First Timers)
This amazing 10 Days in Tanzania itinerary takes you to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Tarangire National Park—three of Tanzania’s top animal attractions. In these isolated and unspoiled wilderness regions, the emphasis of the trip is on community and conservation.
Before continuing on to Oliver’s Camp in Tarangire National Park, you will spend your first night at Tanzania’s biggest coffee farm. You will spend your days on game drives and walking safaris, immersing yourself in the untamed wilds of Africa, and learn all about conservation efforts for lion populations.
After there, you’ll continue on to The Highlands, a luxurious resort in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will get the opportunity to meet and interact with members of the Maasai tribe, which is renowned across the continent, at the lodge, which is situated on the outskirts of a mountain forest that borders the Olmoti volcano. Your last stop is at Namiri Plains, a luxury tented camp in an area that was closed to restock cheetah numbers; here, you’re likely to see more predators than anywhere else in East Africa.

A Detailed 10 Days Tanzania Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to Tanzania! | 1 Nights
Arusha, Tanzania
Your transfer to the Arusha Coffee Lodge will begin after your flight lands at Kilimanjaro International Airport. A safari in Tanzania would not be complete without staying at this lodge, which sits on the country’s biggest coffee plantation. After a long international flight, you will embrace the aromatherapy oasis that is Arusha Coffee Lodge, which is reminiscent of old plantation cottages. A swimming pool, a spa, a variety of shops, and vibrant landscaping are all on the agenda.
Day 2-3: Lion Conservation in Tarangire | 2 Nights
Tarangire, Tanzania
Our Safari in Tanzania – Visit to the Serengeti, Tarangire, Ngorongoro and More
Your journey to Oliver’s Camp will begin with a hearty breakfast. Located in the park’s most inaccessible southeast corner lies Oliver’s Camp. With its prime location above the Minyonyo Pools flood plain—a tributary of the Tarangire River—the camp provides easy access to a rich variety of animals. Experience the classic safari at Oliver’s Camp, where enthusiastic guides will take you on walking safaris, hot air balloon rides over the plains, and the chance to study leopard tracks along dusty roads.
As part of this community-and conservation-focused program, you will hear about the Tarangire Lion Research Initiative (TLRI). Understanding the dynamics and prospects for lion conservation in the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem requires data on ecology, demography, and human-lion interactions, which the TRLI diligently gathers. The lion population in this landscape is second to none among the protected zones in northern Tanzania.
Day 4-6: Community Interactions & Luxury Tents | 3 Nights
Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
You will be driven to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in a private car after breakfast at Oliver’s Camp. The Highlands, perched on the flanks of an extinct volcano (Olmoti), offers a curated collection of luxurious, high-tech tents where you will spend the next several days.
Although it feels far away, the camp is actually quite close to Ngorongoro, the starting point of many wildlife drives. A half-day excursion to the soda lake in Empakaai Crater, home to thousands of pink flamingos, or a climb to the peak of Olmoti, both offer breathtaking vistas. At the end of the day, you can return the cattle to the boma while interacting with the local population and learning about Maasai culture.
Day 7-9: Cheetah Conservation in the Serengeti | 3 Nights
Serengeti, Tanzania
Our Safari of a Lifetime (the Great Migration in Tanzania)
Your 10 Days in Tanzania conservation and community safari will conclude with a road journey to Namiri Plains Camp in the world-famous Serengeti. In order to provide a secure environment for the cheetah population to thrive, Namiri Plains was formerly sealed off in the far east. Nestled among a forest of fever trees, this is undeniably big cat country.
At Namiri Plains Camp, one of the many exciting things to do is to spend the night with a researcher from the Serengeti Cheetah Research Project. This person keeps tabs on the population of cheetahs in the area, which is one of the few remaining natural ecosystems where you can see them in good numbers.
This is wild Africa, where you may observe and learn about cheetahs in the Serengeti, as well as lions, herds of wildebeest, and countless other animals on game drives or even in the privacy of your own luxury hotel.
Day 10: Farewell Africa
Your safari will conclude with a charter flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport after a sumptuous breakfast. Add a few nights in Zanzibar for a fantastic tropical island conclusion by chatting with our Africa Safari Experts.
