A Detailed 10-Day Zambia And Malawi | Victoria Falls, Safari & Beach
Day 1-2: The Mighty Victoria Falls | 2 Nights
A driver will be waiting for you at Livingstone’s International Airport to take you to Tongabezi Lodge by car. Perched idyllically on the banks of the majestic Zambezi River, not far from the Victoria Falls, Tongabezi offers breathtaking views of the river as it winds its way to the thunderous plunge below. Surprisingly, the river’s placid appearance masks its tremendous essence, providing a tranquil background to the lodge, occasionally enriched by the cries of fish eagles or the bellows of hippos.
Some of the many things to do at Victoria Falls include taking a helicopter tour of the falls, zip line through Batoka Gorge, bungee jumping, going on a sundowner cruise, touring the falls themselves, having high tea at the world-famous Victoria Falls Hotel, and perusing a local craft market. While at the lodge, unwind by the pool, take a stroll around the gardens, or indulge in a spa treatment. The lodge is the ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring this amazing location, thanks to its tranquil environment and stunning views.
Day 3: A Night on a Zambezi River Island | 1 Nights
Spend the night on a picturesque river island at Sindabezi Island Camp, Tongabezi’s sibling resort. Get on a boat and go to an eco-luxury resort that doesn’t use electricity. Settle into your room with a river view after a picnic on the island. In a compelling design, the charming open-fronted thatched chalets incorporate all-weather indoor/outdoor living with materials obtained from the local area.
Get some rest and relaxation in the lodge pool today. Then, tag along with your guide for an island picnic, some fishing, a stroll around the island, a sunset cruise and maybe even a stop at the famous Sinda Sand Bar for a refreshing sundowner setting. After all that, come back to the lodge for a delicious dinner.
Day 4-6: Time For a Safari | 3 Nights
Return to Livingstone’s Airport for your flight to Mfuwe Airport in South Luangwa National Park after a leisurely breakfast at Sindabezi. To do this, take a boat back to Tongabezi. Once you’ve met a driver, you’ll be transferred to the airport by road. Shawa Luangwa Camp, your safari home, is a short drive from Mfuwe Airport, where your guide will be waiting to greet you.
Located in the Nsefu section of South Luangwa, a region rich in wildlife, Shawa Luangwa offers prime game viewing opportunities as it lies along the tree-lined banks of the seasonal Luangwa River. Walking, riding in an electric game viewer, or taking a ride on the solar-powered boat are all great ways to see the plentiful wildlife and their habitat from a new angle while reducing your impact on the environment. Even in the camp’s immediate proximity, you may see wildlife: in the shaded riverbanks, a variety of nesting birds congregate, and animals congregate near the cold river waters. Keep your eyes out for these magnificent cats—leopards are also known to frequent the Nsefu Sector.
The eco-tents designed by Shawa Luangwa are both eco-friendly and tastefully decorated. Natural shade and seclusion are yours to enjoy among the riverbank vegetation and trees. After an exciting day visiting this magnificent location, unwind in the open-air bathtub, which adds a romantic touch and is the ideal place to do so.
Day 7-9: The ‘Lake of Stars’ | 3 Nights
The capital of Malawi and the point of entry to Lake Malawi, Lilongwe, is easily reachable from South Luangwa via a straight and short flight. This creates a captivating blend of nature and the beach. Have your final safari breakfast at Shawa Luangwa and then return to Mfuwe Airport for your departure to Lilongwe. The journey will be brief. Take a short plane ride to the airfield on Likoma Island from Lilongwe. And for the following three days, you will reside on this picturesque island at the idyllic island lodge known as Kaya Mawa, which is nestled on an island bordering Lake Malawi, also known as the “Lake of Stars.”
At Kaya Mawa, you may relax and enjoy life at a leisurely pace. As you open your eyes to a beautiful sunrise over the lake, listen to the soft sound of little waves crashing against the coast and then step out onto your private deck. Embark on a kayaking or paddleboarding adventure, go snorkelling or scuba diving to see the fascinating underwater world, unwind on the beautiful beach, or rejuvenate with a massage or spa treatment. Savour the fresh, flavourful food while you take your time eating lunch by the water’s side.
Watch the sun go down over the horizon while you play bao, a popular board game in the area, and sip on a cool drink. Indulge in a romantic candlelit meal while listening to the soothing lullaby of the lake. As the sun sets, unwind on your private deck loungers and gaze up at the night sky.
Day 10: Journey’s End
Before making your way back to the airfield to catch a flight to Lilongwe International Airport, have a hearty breakfast including tropical fruits and locally sourced ingredients. Take one more look around Kaya Mawa.
