Included Activities
Gorilla Trekking:
No other wildlife encounter in Africa matches the astounding experience of spending time face-to-face with some of the few remaining wild mountain gorillas. For a gorilla trek, you need to be fairly fit for the humid, muddy conditions of a rainforest hike. Even in the dry season, the rainforest is a challenging environment: it is humid, wet, and muddy with some steep slopes and thick vegetation. It is absolutely worth the effort to spend time with gorillas in the wild, but be prepared to exert yourself on the trek. Your expert guide and tracker will lead you into the forest’s secret paths in search of a habituated gorilla family. Once located, approach the gorillas gently and settle in to study them from 7 to 10 meters away. You will be with the gorillas for up to an hour, watching the adults forage and groom each other as the babies tumble and play. You will be under the watchful eye of the great silverback patriarch, whose protective soft brown eyes will continually sweep over his brood. It is a genuinely stunning experience to witness gorillas express regular human actions and emotions!

Take a trip down the guided routes through the deep jungle to see the many primates swing from one tree to the next. Try to collect butterflies or spot the many birds whose voices are audible in the silence but whose shapes are obscured by the greenery. A canopy walk strung over ancient trees is remarkable for both the experience and the vista it provides — pure oxygen for your senses. A lot of tea plantations surround the Nyngwe House, adding to the enthralling beauty of the location.
