A Romantic 10-Day Okavango Delta & Linyanti Botswana Safari
A Romantic 10-Day Okavango Delta & Linyanti Botswana Safari. Combining the Okavango Delta and Linyanti in Botswana offers a premier safari, pairing the world’s largest inland delta with a remote, wildlife-rich riverine reserve. Visitors experience diverse landscapes—wetlands, floodplains, and woodlands—featuring high concentrations of elephants, predators (lions, wild dogs), and birdlife. Luxury camps offer boating, mokoro, and walking safaris.
The Okavango Delta and the Savuti Channel are just two of the many natural wildlife reserves that have made Botswana a famous wilderness destination. Visitors to Botswana go to these watering holes in the hopes of seeing some of the most endangered big beasts in the world as they quench their thirst.
Wilderness Joa Camp, situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta and reachable only by air, will be your base camp for the first three nights of your safari trip. In the seclusion of a tropical island in Africa, you will have the opportunity to go on guided bush hikes.
After that, you’ll spend three nights in Wilderness Mombo Camp, a traditional safari lodge, in the north, in the Moremi Game Reserve, a sanctuary for animals. Along the Delta, you will have the opportunity to participate in photography safaris designed specifically for that purpose.
Your journey will conclude with a three-night stay at the rustic Wilderness DumaTau Camp in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. Along the Linyanti River, you will have fantastic fishing adventures and sunset excursions.
For those in search of nonstop outdoor adventures in one-of-a-kind Botswanan locales, this itinerary is tailor-made. Indulge in a variety of outdoor activities and gourmet bush cuisine while staying in five-star accommodations that put you in the middle of some of the most desirable species in the area.
A Detailed 10-Day Okavango Delta & Linyanti Botswana Itinerary
Day 1-3: A Remote Island Retreat | 3 Nights
A Wilderness representative will be there to greet you at Maun Airport and arrange for a light plane journey to Wilderness Jao Camp for your first three nights. Since the camp can only be reached by plane, you will get the opportunity to soar over the expansive Okavango channel before touching down on a secluded island paradise in the middle of the Delta.
Join a guided walking safari on your first full day to see the vastness of this unique island ecosystem. Jao provides exciting safari trips. Another option is to go canoeing around the island on the placid seas. During the off-season, you can enjoy a more personal camp activity by doing catch-and-release fishing. In this secluded corner of the forest, you may see rare and endangered animals like the sitatunga antelope or the more common red lechwe dancing along the riverbanks. When the sun sets, take pleasure in a delicious lunch in the wilderness while listening to the birdsong that fills the air.
Return to camp and treat yourself to a relaxing spa treatment in a secluded area, under by a beautiful canopy of trees. Enjoy a romantic evening meal on your private balcony or relax in the warm embrace of an outdoor boma. Get some shut-eye in the privacy of your twin tent, or for something truly out of the ordinary, try sleeping under a star bed beneath the soft African night sky.
Day 4-6: An Exclusive Wilderness Destination | 3 Nights
You will be transferred to Wilderness Mombo, where you will spend the following three nights on your safari, by light aircraft after breakfast. Tucked away in a dense forest, this opulent camp is on a private concession within the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Here, you may take it easy for a day of bird viewing or feel the rush of pursuing predators on private game drives.
Famously, the reserve provides a safe haven for both isolated leopards and huge prides of lions. Black and white rhinos, two of the most endangered mammal species, are very often seen. Also, while you’re out on the riverbanks, keep an eye out for the lily-hopping African jacana. Visitors who are patient can spend a peaceful afternoon in the camp’s covert photography hide, where they can take pictures of shy animals. The finishing touch to this experience is a relaxing massage on your private deck’s day bed, as you bask in the African sun.
Enjoy unending panoramic views of the Delta floodplains from a romantic dining spot on a wrap-around deck sprinkled with soothing lantern lights. Also, your tented suite has elevated wooden pathways that lead to the major parts of the camp.
Day 7-9: An Intimate Safari Camp Experience | 3 Nights
After breakfast, you’ll be whisked away to Wilderness DumaTau in Botswana’s Linyanti Wildlife Reserve for your last three nights of private safari activities. The camp is located on the edge of Osprey Lagoon, providing a view of the ‘Kingdom of the Elephants,’ so called because these massive creatures cross the magnificent Savuti Channel in search of water and a winter dip.
There are a wide variety of outdoor pursuits that you are welcome to try out here. You can go on game drives twice a day in the hopes of seeing sable antelopes or the endangered African wild dog. An active approach to experience the wilderness is on a guided walk. Campers may enjoy canoeing adventures and river excursions where they can watch hippos playing in the water, thanks to the camp’s location along the river’s edge. You must go on a spotlighted night drive if you want to see the reserve’s nocturnal predators, such leopards.
Communal relaxation spaces are a great way to unwind after a thrilling safari trip without losing sight of the natural beauty around you. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon sipping a cocktail on the spacious observation deck, or in the early evening, find a spot on the jetty with a bonfire and unobstructed views of the riverside sunset.
Day 10: Your Botswana Safari Circuit Ends
Following your last bush breakfast, you will be transported to Maun Airport by a light plane to continue your journey.
