Detailed Itinerary

Day 1-3: Windhoek To The Heart Of The NamibRand | 2 Nights

In Windhoek, the capital, your Namibian adventure starts. Meet your pilot here and then take off for the fly into the heart of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Along with getting you to your destination fast and safely, your air transfer will allow you to take in the breathtaking vistas of the untamed plains below and distant glimpses of the famous blood-red dunes.

For the next two nights, Kwessi Dunes will be your home away from home. The traditional canvas-and-thatch lodge offers a peaceful haven from the outside world and a remarkable natural experience from the comfort of luxury.

Kwessi Dunes has a ton to see and do. The first International Dark Sky Reserve in Africa is the ideal place to spend the evenings stargazing, but days can be spent taking leisurely drives or hikes in the natural reserve. A day trip to Sossusvlei, the world-famous dunes where you can climb Big Daddy or Dune 45 and see the Deadvlei salt pans, is undoubtedly going to be the highlight of your visit. For the more daring visitor, the varied, sandy terrain can be explored on quad bike (ATV) excursions, hot-air balloon rides, and helicopter flights (at an additional cost).

Day 3-5: Big Game Sightings & Local Village Visits | 2 Nights

You will take to the skies once more for a picturesque flight towards the Atlantic region after enjoying breakfast at Kwessi Dunes. Look out for Conception Bay and Sandwich Harbour, as well as Eduard Bohlen, one of the most well-known shipwrecks on the region. You will have a little break in Swakopmund for a seafood lunch and a quick tour of the quaint town before arriving in Hoanib Valley.

Late afternoon will find you at Hoanib Valley Camp, a classy tented camp encircled by tall sand dunes and magnificent mountains. This luxurious lodging redefines what it means to “rough it” in the great outdoors; visitors may enjoy a real stay in the wild without sacrificing contemporary conveniences.

Seeing the varied wildlife that grazes the rough plains is one of the greatest things about taking a holiday in Africa. Hoanib Valley Camp offers morning and afternoon game drives across the surrounding area in quest of lion, rhino, elephant, and giraffe that have adapted to the desert. When not out spotting some of your favourite animals, you may take nature hikes through the dry riverbeds and dunes or spend some time learning about the Himba communities in the area.

Day 5-7: A Scenic Drive To The Skeleton Coast | 2 Nights

Skeleton Coast, Namibia

You will leave Hoanib Valley Camp for a comfortable transfer trip to your ultimate destination after breakfast. Though the drive to the Skeleton Coast takes a whole day, it is rewarded with stunning vistas along the route, including the fleeting Hoanib River, which is home to sizable elephant herds, and the clay-baked terrain that ultimately gives way to white sand dunes.

Your final destination on your Southern African vacation will be Namibia’s stunning coastline, the Skeleton Coast. It’s a hauntingly gorgeous area. The award-winning Shipwreck Lodge will be our home for the next two nights. Its similarity to the shipwrecks that line the shore makes it maybe the most memorable of all the lodgings on this trip.

Sandboarding across the Skeleton Coast’s dunes and quad biking (ATV rides) are two of the many sports that this place has to offer the energetic tourist. Naturally, one cannot leave Shipwreck Lodge without seeing its inspiration. Along with the Suiderkus and Karimona shipwrecks, the Westies diamond mine, and the remnants of the Ventura Bomber are all visited during tours of the Mowe Bay seal colony. Full-day 4×4 trips to the Hoarusib River offer plenty of wildlife sightings and a visit to the Clay Castles for those who still want a traditional safari experience with two thrown in.

Day 7: Wave Goodbye To Africa

Before taking out for Windhoek and the return trip home, have breakfast at Shipwreck Lodge. Though you will be leaving Africa behind, know that there is always more to discover on this amazing continent on another safari that will never be forgotten.
