Tourism in Malawi – Africa’s Most Complete Destination

Malawi, or the Republic of Malawi as it is formally known, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa. The inhabitants of this country are so welcoming that they’ve earned the nickname “The Warm Heart of Africa.”

Lake Malawi (29,600 km2), Mulanje Mountain, and a number of national parks and game reserves are just some of the attractions that draw visitors to Malawi. The tourist business in Malawi has greatly increased since the mid-1970s, and the Malawian government is aiming to boost it further. However, in the 1980s, a recession in South Africa, from which most Malawian tourists originate, had a major impact on the tourism business. Even though the industry was hit hard by Zimbabwe’s political unrest, it has experienced double-digit growth in recent years. In 2014, tourism produced 4.5% of the country’s GDP and accounted for 3.8% of all jobs.
