A Detailed Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Botswana & South Africa Itinerary

Days 1-5: The Serengeti

On arrival in Tanzania you will be met by Andrew and fly into the northern Serengeti, right in the thick of the Great Migration to observe the iconic crossings. The northern Serengeti is action packed, ensuring rich pride heartlands. Wayo Serengeti Green Camp is one of the newest mobile camps in this area. Enjoy early morning professional walking safaris from ideal places remote from the busy regions or head straight for the river to see the crossings. Serengeti Green is a beautifully constructed mobile camp that has reinvented value in the park. Fly camping in ‘star tents’ is also feasible here, one of the most unadulterated experiences in Africa.

Days 5-8: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

From the Serengeti Andrew will fly you to the next highlight, the mountain gorillas of Bwindi, Uganda. Eyeballing a gorilla is not something that any guide would advocate, but being in the midst of a family group is one of our planet’s most thrilling experiences and is well-known amongst safari-goers. You will stay at Buhoma Lodge in the center of Bwindi and the main activity is the morning walks. Many guides believe the Buhoma area to be the best gorilla trekking habitat in all of Africa. You’ll do two treks – no trek is the same – and then your afternoons are fine-tuned according to your interests. Bwindi and this forest in general has about 350 bird species and more than 200 types of butterflies. Andrews will go on walks to see the jungle.

Days 8-9: Entebbe

One more night in Uganda. Time to slow down before the pace gets up again for the next phase of the trip in Southern Africa. Entebbe in central Uganda makes a perfect stopover to take a breather throughout your frenetic travel of Africa. You will stay in Karibu Guest House – which means “welcome” in Swahili Karibu is an inviting, comfortable place with delicious meals and warm hospitality. After one night here you will board your next flight, which is the longest flight of the tour, to Lusaka in Zambia.

Days 9-13: Lower Zambezi National Park

Arrive into Lusaka from Entebbe and transfer through to the Lower Zambezi National Park. Our founder Julian’s favourite region is the Zambezi Valley, he would ‘go on safari to tomorrow’. And the camp? Chula Island Lodge, a great wilderness experience in a warm, adventurous camp on its own little island. This is back to amazing big game wildlife watching on and around an island, in the midst of the Zambezi River. The rooms at Chula are all different. The sides are only net walls so you have an unrestricted 270 degree view of the bush at any time of day or night. Adventurous Africa at its best!

Days 13-15: Victoria Falls

From the magnificent Lower Zambezi you will travel to Victoria Falls and stay two nights at the legendary Victoria Falls Hotel – the oldest and grandest hotel on the Zimbabwean side of the falls. You have been to some of the best wildlife areas in Africa and this is your chance to relax, think and feel the force of the waterfall itself. As these falls are best seen from the skies we have added a helicopter flight for you to experience this from above.

Days 15-18: Okavango Delta

Fly into the Okavango Delta from Victoria Falls to visit one of Botswana’s most pristine and exclusive concessions at Kweene Trails with Beagle Expeditions. Kweene is Botswana’s only totally movable safari camp, operating in the premium private reserves. Botswana is known for its very expensive private reserves, where exclusivity of this sort is often unobtainable for many. But Kweene has changed all that. Kweene Trails is set in the western Okavango, accessed by light aircraft and later helicopter, following the Kweene River system. This is a region known for its fluid lion dynamics and resident wild dog packs. A genuine Okavango wildlife watching place that we greatly adore and that is known only to the top guides.

Days 18-23: Cape Town

From Botswana you will fly down to Cape Town for the remaining few days of the vacation. Your four-night stay in the heart of Cape Town will be at the boutique hotel Four Rosmead. There are a lot of possibilities here to chose from day-to-day! What’s important is that you use the hotel as a base, and tour the city. We highly recommend a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula that includes Cape Point, Chapman’s Peak Drive and the Boulders Beach penguin colony. A classic city tour lets you see Cape Town through the eyes of the locals, and a cable car trip to the top of Table Mountain offers unrivalled views over the city and Atlantic coastline. Lastly, the Cape Winelands is a must see. Here you’ll get to enjoy award winning wines and the region’s truly stand out gastronomic culture.
