A Detailed 11-Day Waterberg, Etosha And Damaraland Itinerary
Day 1: Set Off from Windhoek | 1 Nights
To reach Olive Grove, a lovely guesthouse in a peaceful suburb on the outskirts of Windhoek, you will get your roomy, air-conditioned vehicle from Hosea Kutako International Airport.
You can savour meals and relax in Olive Grove without leaving if you so desire. The weather in Namibia is perfect for outdoor eating, so guests can enjoy home-style dinners on the terrace. After a long day, guests may unwind with a massage or a dip in the refreshing plunge pool.
Even if you don’t have much time to sightsee, the city center is conveniently close for dining and other attractions including Heroes’ Acre, the Tintenpalast, and the Alte Feste, which are memorials to some of Namibia’s most notable individuals.
Days 2-3: Into the Waterberg Plateau | 2 Nights
Hit the road and leave Windhoek’s cityscape after a nice breakfast at Olive Grove and a good night’s sleep. Last but not least, you will arrive at Frans Indongo Lodge on the Waterberg Plateau, which offers breathtaking views of Waterberg National Park. More than 200 bird species and rare types of small antelope are among the park’s ecologically diverse inhabitants.
The trip isn’t too lengthy or tough, and you may relax in the lodge’s pool and on the observation decks on the first day. While the thatched cabins with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TVs, and private bathrooms are pleasant, the national park is the true attraction. You can embark on a guided game drive at dawn or dusk with a ranger or tracker, or you can go on a game drive by yourself. Nearby, the Cheetah Conservation Fund does outstanding work to safeguard these majestic cats, and hikers can don their boots and explore Frans Indongo’s land on 1.5 or 3-hour self-guided treks.
Enjoy a nightcap on the terrace while you watch antelopes of all colours (roan, sable, nyala, red lechwe, rare white blesbok) come down to the illuminated waterhole for a drink in the evenings. Additionally, there is a wooden tower that offers an elevated viewpoint that allows you to see even farther; it is an ideal location to have a rusk and some freshly brewed coffee while you see the dawn.
Days 4-6: The Great White Place | 3 Nights
Your three days at Etosha National Park will be more productive if you’ve spent time on the Waterberg Plateau honing your game-spotting abilities. North of Etosha, in the Onguma Private Game Reserve, is a laid-back bush camp called Onguma, which you reach after leaving Frans Indongo Lodge. This choice combines the best of both worlds, allowing you to spend some time in Etosha game viewing and other activities in Onguma including nature hikes and animal tracking.
Guests at Onguma can enjoy the same swimming pool and floodlit waterhole as those of Frans Indongo Lodge, allowing them to easily observe plains game such as zebras, giraffes, kudu, and hartebeests. With any luck, they may even spot predators like lions or cheetahs.
After a long day exploring the park or reserve, nothing beats ending the day with a traditional Namibian campfire dinner in the boma.
Days 7-8: Discover Damaraland | 2 Nights
We are now going to travel west to Damaraland, a special place in the Twyfelfontein area. Damaraland is renowned for its water-adapted elephants, San rock art from prehistoric times, and massive geological phenomena such as Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes.
Constructed from thatch and stone amidst huge granite boulders, Camp Kipwe echoes the rounded forms of the surrounding red basalt rocks and serves as your temporary residence.
Kipwe provides guided night drives, nature hikes with a tracker, and an unforgettable evening beneath the stars, but you may still set your own schedule. During the day, take it easy under the mopane trees and watch the birds flit by.
Days 9-11: A Touch of Germany | 2 Nights
Swakopmund, one of Namibia’s most historically significant towns, awaits you south after two restful nights at Camp Kipwe. German coffee shops, bakeries, delis, and breweries abound, and many of the buildings have preserved their original designs from when the Germans colonised in the late 1800s. Skydiving, dune biking, scenic flights over the Namib Desert, and other fascinating activities abound in “Swakop,” as it is colloquially known, making it the adventure center of Namibia.
Guests can enjoy a prime location between the town center and the beach at the Swakopmund Guesthouse. Families looking for a more relaxed eating experience will love the guesthouse’s vacation home vibe. After a leisurely breakfast on the well-kept lawn, you may explore the town on foot for shopping and sightseeing, go parasailing, horseback riding, or take a boat ride to Walvis Bay, which is close by.
