After your arrival at Cape Town International Airport, a driver will take you to the V&A Waterfront, where you can check into the Cape Grace, your home for the next four nights.
You will be in the ideal spot to explore Cape Town’s most popular sites from this glitzy yet welcoming hotel. If you’d like to dine on your first night at Cape Grace, you have a fantastic selection of restaurants to choose from. After a full night’s sleep, you’ll be ready to explore the area. Ride the cable car up Table Mountain or take a boat from the V&A Waterfront to the prison island of Nelson Mandela, Robben Island. Enjoy a sundowner at a cocktail bar in Camps Bay or relax in a protected cove on Clifton Beach. Take a leisurely stroll around the city’s street cafes and markets or peruse the retail paradise right outside your door.
Explore the surrounding area to see the breathtaking scenery of Cape Point or bring a picnic to the verdant Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens; this city and its environs provide an abundance of activities and attractions.
Days 5-7: Africa’s Gourmet Capital | 3 Nights
Franschhoek, in the Cape Winelands, is your next stop. Gathered in Cape Grace, a driver will whisk you away from Cape Town in just an hour. En there, you’ll pass past vineyards and fruit farms, and marvel at the breathtaking mountain passes that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Franschhoek is the culinary mecca of South Africa. The city’s streets are lined with award-winning eateries and cafés, making them ideal for a stroll. The three nights you spend at the highly regarded boutique hotel Le Quartier Français are topped off by a meal at The Tasting Room.
The nearby vineyards are surprisingly easy to reach, and the 300-year-old winemaking history gracefully combines Old World and New World techniques. Delve into cellars buried into slopes for ideal representations of the Cape’s terroir while enjoying light lunches and unhurried wine tastings in dappled sunlight beneath old oak trees.
Wear comfortable shoes because day 7 is devoted to a guided tour of the top family-friendly attractions and activities in the region. At Spier, you can see eagles and other raptors up close, sample some wine, and let the kids sip grape juice while they discover the importance of bugs to the environment. Enjoy some time in the sun at thrilling playgrounds in between tasting goat’s milk cheese (and seeing the goats!), visiting a glass blower, and sampling some local chocolate.
Days 8-11: Big 5 at Kwandwe Private Reserve | 4 Nights
As you bid farewell to the Winelands, your 12-Day Family Cape Town, Winelands And Garden Route continues onwards to the international airport in Cape Town. To catch your flight to Gqerberha (formerly ‘Port Elizabeth’), you will once again be collected from Franschhoek and driven to Cape Town’s airport.
You will be greeted at the airport and sent to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, where you will spend the last four nights in Kwandwe Fort House.
