A Detailed 15-Day South Africa Itinerary
Days 1-4: Search for the Big 5 Sabi Sands | 4 Nights
Today is the first day of your safari; departing from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport, you will fly straight into the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, which borders the famous Kruger National Park. Your arrival at the airfield will be greeted by a representative who will then take you to the Dulini River Lodge, a five-star safari lodge that overlooks the Sand River and sits beneath a canopy of ebony trees.
You will be spending the next three nights in a country that is seriously Big 5. Unwind in style before your first thrilling evening game drive across the abundant Sabi Sands, illuminated by the setting sun. Over the course of the following several days, you can take part in a wide variety of exciting game viewing excursions. You can experience some of the most breathtaking wildlife viewing in Africa on guided walking safaris or exciting early morning or late afternoon game drives.
An absolute must-see on any safari, the Sabi Sands is famous for its exceptional Big 5 animal watching and boasts some of the greatest leopard sightings in the Greater Kruger area. As the sun goes down, guests can gather around the boma fire for scrumptious African-inspired dinners, while others share tales of the local wildlife and savour glasses of fine South African wine.
Days 5-6: Check into The Saxon | 2 Nights
After your last night at Sabi Sands, you’ll depart for Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport this morning. From there, a transfer will take you to the five-star Saxon Hotel. Located in the posh neighbourhood of Sandton, which is home to some of South Africa’s most opulent mansions, The Saxon offers a truly luxurious experience. This picture-perfect hotel was where Nelson Mandela, the former president, finished editing his renowned autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom.
Relax in your roomy suite before taking use of the hotel’s many amenities, such as the world-class spa or the tranquil setting of the pools and koi pond, perfect for a refreshing beverage. As the day comes to a close, we have supper at Qunu, a renowned restaurant in Johannesburg.
Soweto, the township associated with the liberation movement, can be explored on a half-day excursion the following day. Stop by the Hector Pieterson Museum, wander Vilakazi Street, and see Nelson Mandela’s childhood home in Soweto.
Days 7-10: Welcome to the Kalahari | 4 Nights
Your 15-Day South Africa Itinerary today will take you straight into Tswalu Game Reserve, a private wilderness on the outskirts of the enormous Kalahari Desert, as you depart from the City of Gold. An oasis among rust-red sand, white-blond grasses, and thorn trees, The Motse is where you’ll be staying. In addition to morning, afternoon, and nighttime game drives, guests may also take guided hikes across the breathtaking red dunes of the Kalahari and see sites with authentic Khoisan rock engravings.
Some of the most uncommon and exotic animals in Africa, such as the pangolin, aardvark, and sable antelope, call Tswalu home. You can unwind with a variety of treatments at the Sanctuary Spa or just lounge by the pool with a drink in hand when you’re not enchanted by the scenery. The Malori Sleep-out Deck is an idyllic spot for a romantic getaway where you and your loved one may enjoy a night beneath the stars in complete seclusion.
Days 11-14: Fly to Cape Town | 4 Nights
As you board a chartered flight from the Tswalu airfield and make your way south to Cape Town International Airport, you will be leaving the Kalahari behind today, marking the penultimate stage of your South African vacation. From here, a private shuttle will take you to the V&A Waterfront, where the exclusive Cape Grace is located.
The Cape Grace is renowned for its outstanding service, gourmet cuisine, and lavish yet unpretentious accommodations and ambiance, and it provides an exceptional level of elegance and luxury. Famous for its many thrilling activities and picturesque sites, Cape Town is arguably Africa’s most attractive city.
Spend your first full day in Cape Town seeing the Peninsula’s most famous landmarks and beaches on a guided tour. Stroll through coastal suburbs, say hello to the seals that call Kalk Bay home, and enjoy a picturesque stroll near the world-famous penguin colony at Boulders. Keep going to Cape Point for a breathtaking walk along undeveloped beaches and coasts dotted with sunken ships, followed by a private lunch in the middle of unspoiled coastal splendour. Visit Noordhoek Farm Village and take a scenic drive along Chapman’s Peak to cap off the afternoon. Then, unwind with some local sundowners.
Immerse yourself in the slower pace of the Winelands on day two of your adventure, which combines art, nature, and great wine. Start with an intimate stroll through the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden, an oasis of tranquillity where breathtaking artworks and natural scenery coexist. Keep on through the undulating vineyards that surround Stellenbosch, stopping at the one-of-a-kind DeMorgenzon estate as you listen to the gentle strains of Baroque music resonating among the grapes. Spend the morning indulging in a fine lunch at one of the area’s renowned eateries (own expense), then spend the afternoon touring boutique cellars and ancient estates. The day comes to a close with a private tasting at Muratie, one of the most evocative and oldest wineries in South Africa.
The third and last full day in Cape Town is at your leisure. Enjoy a picnic in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, a boat ride to Robben Island, or a ride on Table Mountain’s cable car. During summer, visitors must visit Camps Bay and Clifton beaches. For shoppers, the V&A Waterfront has an abundance of amazing stores, and local markets like Greenmarket Square are great places to find genuine African souvenirs. At night, you may take a leisurely stroll through the lively streets while dining at one of the city’s many excellent restaurants, take a boat tour from the Waterfront while sipping sundowners or visit a lively cocktail bar in Camps Bay to watch the sun go down.
