10-Day Namibia Family Safari | Etosha, Swakopmund & Sossusvlei
A Luxury 10-Day Namibia Family Safari | Etosha, Swakopmund & Sossusvlei. The 10-day Namibia family safari typically covers a “loop” through the country’s most iconic landscapes: the towering dunes of Sossusvlei, the coastal adventure hub of Swakopmund, and the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park.
On this Luxury 10-Day Namibia Family Safari, you may explore the highlights of Namibia, such as Swakopmund, Etosha National Park, and Sossusvlei, at your own pace.
This all-inclusive trip starts in Windhoek and travels to the private Onguma Game Reserve on the borders of the game-packed Etosha National Park. From there, you’ll arrive in the rocky Damaraland region, where you can see ancient rock art at Twyfelfontein and hunt for the rare desert elephant.
For a sample of the adrenaline-filled activities in the area, drive from bleak Damaraland to Swakopmund, Namibia’s indisputable playground on the beautiful Atlantic coast. One last stop before heading back to Windhoek is the Namib Desert, where you can see the gigantic red sand dunes at Sossusvlei and even climb a few of them.
A Detailed 10-Day Namibia Family Safari | Etosha, Swakopmund & Sossusvlei
Day 1: Set Out from Windhoek | 1 Nights
After touching down in Windhoek, the charming capital of Namibia, reserve a car and head out to the Okonjima Plains Camp for the evening. Unwind in the camp’s pool or on the wooden veranda; while you’re there, stop by the Africat project to find out about the local carnivores.
Days 2-5: Enjoy the Etosha National Park | 3 Nights
After a hearty breakfast at Okonjima Plains Camp, it’s time to hit the road to the Onguma Private Game Reserve, which borders Etosha National Park. Before you start exploring this wildlife-rich area, make sure you check into Onguma Bush Camp. You won’t have to go far to observe animals; while you’re there, relax with a drink on the lodge’s game-viewing platform, which overlooks the popular waterhole.
Over the next two days, take a guided safari tours of Etosha National Park. This park is easily navigable by car, and it is home to a diverse array of animals, including desert specialists, classic savannah wildlife, and predators like black rhinos and elephants.
Day 5: Explore dramatic Damaraland | 2 Nights
After breakfast, head to Doro Nawas Camp, a two-night stay in the mountainous Damaraland region. At first look, the area appears to be barren, yet closer inspection reveals stunning natural beauty and unexpectedly abundant animals. Take a dip in the pool or have a drink at the bar as you watch the sun go down from the rooftop deck; after dark, stare up at the stars for a really unforgettable experience.
Day 6: See Ancient Rock Art at Twyfelfontein
The oldest collection of prehistoric rock art in Africa may be found in Twyfelfontein, home to ancient San (Bushman) rock engravings. Get your fill of game viewing in this rugged but rewarding area, which features dry riverbeds and thorny thickets. Don’t miss the chance to see the elusive desert-adapted elephants and other fascinating animals.
Day 7: Explore the Historic Town of Swakopmund | 1 Nights
Your journey today will take you along the Atlantic coast of Namibia to the charming German-colonial town of Swakopmund, where you will stay at the Swakopmund Guesthouse. Not only can you go quadbiking on the adjacent sand dunes, skydiving, and sandboarding, among many other adventure sports, in Namibia’s vacation playground, but you can also just stroll the welcoming streets and peruse the unique boutiques, cafes, and artisan stores.
Day 8: Drive to the Namib Desert | 2 Nights
Have breakfast at Swakopmund and maybe do something fun before you leave the shore. On your way to Kulala Desert Lodge, take in the lunar-like landscape of the Kuiseb Valley as you wind your way across the expansive Namib Desert. Take a dip in the pool for some exercise or just kick back on the porch of your chalet and watch the sun go down over the desert.
Day 9: See the Towering Dunes at Sossusvlei
To get a close look at the world-famous red dunes, get up early and go on a guided tour to Sossusvlei. You may witness for yourself why these dunes are supposedly among the largest in the world—they reach heights of up to 300 meters—by stopping at Dune 45 and making your way to the peak. Afternoon hikes in the lodge’s private reserve can be arranged with your guide.
Day 10: End Your Adventure in Windhoek
After a champagne brunch and a hot-air balloon ride over the Namib Desert, your 10-Day Namibia family safari comes to a close in Windhoek. After dropping off the rental car, head to the airport to catch your flight out.
