A Detailed 9-Day Malawi Fly-in Safari And Beach Holiday
Day 1: Succumb to the Magic of Robin’s House | 4 Nights
Your representative will be waiting for you at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka to help you board your aircraft to Mfuwe International Airport in the Eastern Province of Zambia. Upon arrival, your guide will be ready to take you to Robin’s House, which is situated on the banks of the Luangwa River. It is an hour’s drive from the airport to South Luangwa National Park.
After a long day, relax in your beautifully appointed apartment and enjoy the scenery from your private balcony. The verdant riverine forests and breathtaking escarpments of the Luangwa Valley, which marks the site of the Great Rift Valley’s division, place you in one of the remaining untouched wildernesses on the continent.
A charming Zambian villa, Robin’s House has been painstakingly restored and transformed into a charming guesthouse. With a private cook, housekeeper, valet, and safari guide at your service, you and your loved ones may choose your own schedule. After a sundowner wildlife drive that carries into the night, unwind with an outdoor lunch under the shade of an ebony tree while gazing out over the river.
Days 2-4: Explore South Luangwa National Park
Have breakfast first thing in the morning to get your day started well. The Luangwa River is home to one of the most remarkable concentrations of animals in Africa, thanks to its thick foliage and raw, rocky beauty, which are nourished by dozens of temporary rivers that flood during the rainy season.
Depart from the lodge either on foot or by boat; stop for coffee and cake by a lagoon midway through the morning; return to Robin’s House for lunch around noon. Relax and cool down in the pool. As the sun sets on your late-afternoon game drive, you’ll sip afternoon tea while spotlights illuminate its shadows and beckon you into its nocturnal realm. Leopard densities in South Luangwa are among the highest in all of Africa.
Your time is your own to spend anyway you like. A trained scout can accompany you on an all-day walking-safari, complete with an outdoor picnic, or you can opt for more traditional morning and afternoon game drives. Experience the thrill of a canoe or boat safari as you glide past herds of elephants, hippos, and crocodiles while listening to the chirps of thousands of water birds. Visit the nearby Kawaza Village to learn about the locals; or just relax at Robin’s House with a good book and an afternoon of stargazing before a candlelit dinner for two.
Day 5: Head into the Sunset on Glittering Lake Malawi | 4 Nights
Your hour-long trip to Lilongwe will depart from Mfuwe International Airport, so be sure to transfer there after breakfast. There will be a representative waiting to help you board your connecting aircraft to Monkey Bay when you arrive. From this point on, you will be escorted to the Pumulani Lake Lodge via road.
Ten air-conditioned villas with unique grass roofs that reflect the African sun are located in the hills of the Nankumba Peninsula in Lake Malawi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Each villa has a large master bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a private deck that opens onto the outdoors. After you’ve freshened up from your travels, settle in and open the glass doors leading out to your terrace. Take a moment to silently take it all in. Pumulani, which translates to “rest well” in Chichewa, is an apt description of the next three days.
Days 6-8: Dive into an Underwater Kaleidoscope
Above you, in the waters illuminated by rays of filtered sunshine, schools of small fish, some tangerine-colored and others blue, swoop and dart through the water, and then, from the shadows, a pair of minuscule golden mbunas emerge…
As you scuba dive into one of the world’s deepest lakes, you’ll be immersed in an aquatic museum housing a vibrant community of tiny fish known as mbuna, or African cichlids. Just seeing some of the 300 species that call Lake Malawi home is one of the most unforgettable wildlife experiences you can have in all of Africa.
Wakeboard or water ski across Pumulani’s two speedboats in the morning, or get some exercise before lunch by taking a guided walk into the hills, where you can take in the breathtaking scenery, before transferring to a kayak and paddling gently back to the lodge.
With its calm, fresh lake water that is free of waves, currents, and salt, Pumulani is a great place for families to visit. This lake has an enchanting clarity as the sun delicately skims its surface. You can understand why David Livingstone was so fond of calling it the Lake of Stars. Set out on the lodge’s traditional dhow for a magical sunset cruise as the sun sets over the horizon, turning the lake a brilliant gold. Savour sundowners as the day comes to a close.
Day 9: A Final Farewell Swim Before Your Onward Journey Home
Following breakfast and one more swim before saying goodbye, you will be transferred to Lilongwe’s Kamuzu International Airport for your connecting flight and then homeward 9-Day Malawi Fly-in Safari And Beach Holiday…
