A Detailed 8-Day Morocco Itinerary

Day 1: Adventure starts in Marrakech

But today is a laid-back day, so we can all come together and get settled. Take a cab to the city’s main square, Djemaa El Fna, where you may peruse the souks and people-watch from a cafe if you have the time.

At approximately 6 o’clock in the evening, you will meet your tour guide and other passengers at the hotel for the first time. This is when you will have the opportunity to get to know each other and hear more about the exciting activities that lie ahead.

Before heading out to a traditional Moroccan supper, your tour guide will make sure everyone is warmly welcomed.

Accommodation: Hôtel Palais Al Bahja, Hotel Le Caspien, Hotel Ayoub (or similar)
Meals included: Dinner

Day 2: Across the High Atlas to Ait Benhaddou

The Ait Benhaddou ksar, or fortified settlement, is our intended stop for the day. Several Hollywood films, including Gladiator (2000), were shot in this World Heritage site, which is among the most breathtaking locations in the Atlas. Midway in the afternoon, we reach our destination after navigating across Morocco’s highest pass, Tizi n’Tichka.

Afterwards, we’ll go on a guided tour of the ksar with our knowledgeable guide, winding through the complex network of passageways to reach a hilltop granary. From there, we’ll be able to take in breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including the Atlas Mountains. Our next stop is the hotel, where we will have supper.

Drive time: Four hours with two stops
Accommodation: Rose du Sable (or similar)
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3: Hike through Todgha Gorge; lunch prepared by a local family

The Atlas Film Studios, which has staged numerous Hollywood productions and even Game of Thrones, now calls this location home.

The next stop is to Todgha Gorge, a breathtaking river canyon characterised by high limestone walls. Here, our tour guide leads us on a 1 hour and 30 minute stroll as we eat lunch in the house of a food-loving family.

Drive time: 4hr 30min with two stops
Accommodation: Hotel Kasbah Taborihte (or similar)
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4: Camel trek into the Sahara; night at an Amazigh camp

As soon as we arrive, our knowledgeable camel handlers will lead us on a one-hour trip across the desert terrain and dunes.

We will be sleeping in tents designed in the Amazigh manner in our desert camp, as the expedition comes to a close. In the community dining tent, we may savour dinner while taking in the vastness of the desert under the blanket of starlight and the stillness of the night.

Attention: The Sahara requires you to bring only one overnight bag; your other belongings will remain in the vehicle.

Drive time: 4hr 30min
Accommodation: Yasmina Chebbi camp (full-service camping)
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 5: Transfer to Zagora; optional walk in the Draa Valley

It is a once in a lifetime, mystical experience to get up early and climb a neighbouring dune to watch the sunrise. Zagora is a town in the Draa Valley, and we will return to our vehicle after breakfast to go there.

The hotel’s grounds and pool are perfect places to unwind after a night spent in the desert. We have the opportunity to go for a stroll into the valley and around this well-known desert outpost later in the afternoon.

Drive time: Five hours
Accommodation: Hotel Chez Ali (or similar)
Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6: Walk to Tighza in the Atlas Mountains

After that, we get out of the car and embark on a walk with severe inclines that passes through several little mountain towns. Our gite, a basic inn in the village of Tighza, where we’ll spend the night, is about a 1 hour and thirty minute drive away.

As the sun sets over the mountains, the terrace offers a breathtaking view of the valley below. Meeting local locals and learning about their culture is a great perk of this tranquil retreat.

The local hammam, constructed with funds collected by our respective groups, is our destination for the evening. This is the real deal, folks. Because it is a traditional hammam, you will likely have the chance to interact with locals, which enhances the experience even more. Relax, you won’t be getting a spa treatment. Twenty Moroccan dirham (about $2) will cover the cost of the normal treatment plus the usual gratuity of 20 dirham. You’ll also need to buy a scrubber and soap. After our alpine meal, we head back to the gite.

Drive time: 4hr 30min to 5hr
Accommodation: Tighza gite
Meals included: Breakfast

Day 7: Explore Marrakech: Djemaa el Fna, Bahia Palace and souks

The afternoon is reserved for a walking tour of Marrakech’s most impressive landmarks. Following our city guide’s directions, we will visit the Bahia Palace, get a glimpse of Marrakech’s largest mosque, the Koutoubia, and meander through the intricate souks, where you can buy and sell gifts.

We can then go to a restaurant with a square view for supper. Maybe you’d rather go on your own adventure today and ride a calèche (horse-drawn carriage) to the Majorelle Gardens, designed by Yves St. Laurent.

Drive time: Four hours
Accommodation: Hôtel Palais Al Bahja, Hotel Le Caspien, Hotel Ayoub (or similar)
Meals included: Breakfast
