4-Day Botswana Safari | Jack’s Camp Botswana’s Kalahari

A 4-Day Botswana Safari | Jack’s Camp Botswana’s Kalahari. A 4-day safari at the iconic Jack’s Camp in Botswana’s Kalahari offers unparalleled luxury in the Makgadikgadi pans. Packages typically start around $7,900 per person and include desert exploration, 1940s-style tented accommodation, and unique experiences like walking with San Bushmen and interacting with habituated meerkats.

Jack’s Camp, one of Botswana’s original Kalahari camps, offers three unforgettable nights in the hauntingly gorgeous Makgadikgadi Pans. This iconic safari lodge is located in a private concession on the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park’s boundary, allowing for both daytime and nighttime game drives, as well as guided nature walks.

Walking safaris, wildlife drives, quad riding trips, and cultural encounters are all options for exploring this huge, largely unexplored area. Get up close and personal with the fascinating meerkats and elusive brown hyenas of the Kalahari, and patrol the rolling grasslands adjacent to the salt pans for a surprisingly diverse range of big game, including zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and all of the major predators. Following the rains, the summer bird watching (November to April) is fantastic. This brief yet vigorous Kalahari safari complements the Okavango Delta nicely, providing a comprehensive study in contrast.

A Detailed 4-Day Botswana Safari | Jack’s Camp Botswana’s Kalahari

Day 1: Arrive at Jack’s Camp | 3 Nights

Travel from Maun Airport to Jack’s Camp in the Kalahari Desert. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a wonderful high tea before embarking on your first thrilling game drive through the huge Makgadikgadi grasslands. Enjoy the sunset and a fascinating presentation on how the Makgadikgadi salt pans developed. Return to camp by a short, spotlit night drive for a delectable meal served in the magnificent mess tent.

Day 2: Interact with Meerkats

Get up early and go out to find the neighbourhood meerkats. These sociable, mongoose-like creatures occasionally utilise guests as lookout points and frequently cuddle up for warmth on cold winter mornings or use your shadow for shade on hotter summer days.

After a picnic breakfast, visit a rural cattle post to discover more about the traditional culture of the Batswana people and the San Bushmen of the region. Visit Chapman’s Boabab, claimed to be Africa’s largest tree, and learn about Botswana’s early explorers before returning to camp for lunch. In the afternoon, go quad-biking and watch another stunning Makgadikgadi sunset.

Day 3: Discover Archeological Wonders

Embark on an early morning archaeological tour on the outskirts of the Makgadikgadi Pans, pausing to examine the old stone tools that remain strewn about. Return to camp for a delicious brunch, then relax before your afternoon tea. It’s soon time to go on a game drive in quest of the brown hyena, one of Africa’s rarest animals. Keep an eye out for other big game species, since the area has far more big mammals than most tourists realise, and then return to the lodge for a romantic dinner.

Day 4: Spend Time with Bushmen

Spend a wonderful morning with the local San Bushmen trackers. Discover how they have survived in this hard climate for thousands of years by utilising their old knowledge of flora, animal habits, and hunting techniques. Enjoy one more lunch before returning to Maun Airport for your trip home or onwards holiday connections.
