10-Day Namibia Itinerary | Etosha, Swakopmund & Sossusvlei

A 10-Day Namibia Itinerary perfectly balances arid desert adventures, coastal activities, and premier wildlife safaris. This classic loop covers the giant red dunes of Sossusvlei, the adrenaline-fueled coastal town of Swakopmund, and the abundant waterholes of Etosha National Park.

This 10-Day Namibia Itinerary will take you through the wonders of Namibia, including Etosha National Park, Swakopmund, and Sossusvlei, at your own leisure.

Start your 10-Day Namibia Itinerary from Windhoek with a visit to the private Onguma Game Reserve, located on the boundaries of the game-packed Etosha National Park. Continue on to the rocky Damaraland region, where you can see ancient rock art at Twyfelfontein and hunt for the rare desert elephant.

For a sample of the adrenaline-filled activities in the area, drive from bleak Damaraland to Swakopmund, Namibia’s indisputable playground on the beautiful Atlantic coast. Last but not least, make your way inland to the Namib Desert. At Sossusvlei, you can see and even climb the massive red sand dunes. Then, head back to Windhoek.

A Detailed 10-Day Namibia Itinerary

Day 1: Set Out from Windhoek | 1 Nights

Pick up in Windhoek, the charming capital of Namibia, and head out to the Okonjima Plains Camp, where you’ll spend the night. Relax on the wooden veranda or at the camp’s swimming pool; while you’re there, stop by the Africat project to find all about the local carnivores.

Days 2-5: Enjoy the Etosha National Park | 3 Nights

Get some breakfast at Okonjima Plains Camp before hitting the road in your rental car to the Etosha National Park boundary Onguma Private Game Reserve. Before you start exploring this wildlife-rich area, make sure you check into Onguma Bush Camp. You won’t have to go far to observe animals; while you’re there, relax with a drink on the lodge’s game-viewing platform, which overlooks the popular waterhole.

Spend the next two days exploring Etosha National Park on your own. This park is perfect for self-driving safaris because it is well-organised, has a wide variety of animals (including desert specialists and conventional savannah wildlife), and is well-known as a habitat for predators like black rhinos and elephants.

Day 5: Explore dramatic Damaraland | 2 Nights

After breakfast, head to the rough Damaraland area to spend two nights at Doro Nawas Camp. Although it appears to be a barren wasteland at first look, the area is actually very beautiful and unexpectedly rich in fauna. Drink something refreshing from the bar or swim in the pool before taking in the sunset from the rooftop deck; as the sun goes down, look up at the stars for a breathtaking celestial show.

Day 6: See Ancient Rock Art at Twyfelfontein

The oldest collection of prehistoric rock art in Africa may be found in Twyfelfontein, home to ancient San (Bushman) rock engravings. Get your fill of game viewing in this rugged but rewarding area, which features dry riverbeds and thorny thickets. Don’t miss the chance to see the elusive desert-adapted elephants and other fascinating animals.

Day 7: Explore the Historic Town of Swakopmund | 1 Nights

You will depart from the charming German-colonial town of Swakopmund this morning for a trip to the Atlantic coast of Namibia and the Swakopmund Guesthouse. Not only can you go quadbiking on the adjacent sand dunes, skydiving, and sandboarding, among many other adventure sports, in Namibia’s vacation playground, but you can also just stroll the welcoming streets and peruse the unique boutiques, cafes, and artisan stores.

Day 8: Drive to the Namib Desert | 2 Nights

Swakopmund is a great place to have breakfast and maybe do something fun before you leave the seaside. While making your way to Kulala Desert Lodge, your hotel for the night, you can marvel at the lunar-like, craggy Kuiseb Valley as you drive across the expansive Namib Desert. Take a dip in the pool for some exercise or just kick back on the porch of your chalet and watch the sun go down over the desert.

Day 9: See the Towering Dunes at Sossusvlei

To get a close look at the world-famous red dunes, get up early and go on a guided tour to Sossusvlei. These dunes are supposedly among the highest in the world, reaching heights of up to 300 meters. If you want to see for yourself, just stop at Dune 45 and make your way to the peak. After lunch, you and your guide can go for a stroll in the lodge’s private reserve.

Day 10: End Your Adventure in Windhoek

After a champagne brunch and a hot-air balloon ride over the Namib Desert, your 10-Day Namibia Itinerary comes to a close in Windhoek. Before you catch your trip out, make sure to return the rental car to the airport.
